George William Pettway, the son of John E. and Frances Pettway of Prince George Co., Va., was born about 1845. He married Clara Caskie Totty, the daughter of Benjamin Woodson Totty and wife, Frances Hobbs Nunnally, of Richmond. Both George and Clara died young. George was a railroader who died in an accident in 1887. Clara died in 1891. They left five children surviving them to be reared by relatives. Their daughter, Helen Maude Pettway, married William E. Bennett, son of John E. and Mary Frances (Smith) Bennett. One of the Pettway sons, Charles Herbert Pettway, married Mary Frances Bennett, a daughter of John E. and Mary Bennett.
