William Durham Spruill was born September 1836 and died June 1908. He was the son of Theophilus Spruill of Martin Co., NC who died in 1844 and whose Will was recorded in Martin County, NC in October of that year.
William's mother died prior to his father, Theophilus. Theophilus directed, in his Last Will and Testament, that his son William was to be educated and when he was not away at school, William was to live with his Grandmother Spruill.
We do not know what brought W.D. Spruill from Martin Co. to Franklin Co., NC. W.D. Spruill married Frances A. Perry of Franklin Co., NC October 8, 1856. Fannie was the daughter of Allen C. and Elizabeth C. (Person) Perry of Franklin County. Fannie was born in 1836. William and Fannie had several children. After her death in 1885, William married her sister, Eliza R. Perry (Jan. 1848 - Mar. 1921). The W.D. Spruill and Allen Perry families lived near each other at the crossroads of present-day Route 56 and Perry Chapel Road in Franklin County - the land originally owned by Allen's father, Jeremiah "Fork" Perry.
